"Including whole wheat flour..." #Repost @markhymanmd • • • • • Even though our government and the food industry loves to push grains, especially whole grains and “heart health” grains, on us, we actually do not need to eat grains. I do believe that a little bit of grain here and there is fine for some, but the problem is that grains have become a staple in the American diet, and quite frankly, the main dish. Each part of a grain has benefits, especially fiber. However, particularly in the amounts we consume today, they break down into glucose, which spikes the hormone insulin, the body’s fat fertilizer or fat-storage hormone. High levels of insulin induced by starch and sugar are the driving force behind our obesity and chronic disease epidemics. They are linked to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and even dementia. Also, the grains we eat now, especially gluten containing grains, are not the same grains that our grandparents ate. Most wheat is dosed with a chemical herbicide called glyphosate just before harvest, which increases its yield. Wellness takes work and discipline 90% plus of the time. Health is not an accident for most of us. What the heck should I eat?! I mean, @markhymanmd makes a good point right? This is the question we are constantly asking ourselves and others. Even though we already posted on this book, it deserves its own post because it is just that mind blowing and is packed with information. I think Dr. @deannaminich said it best when she said, “the mood we are in determines what we choose to eat, so it only makes sense that the food we eat then determines our mood.” • • Nutrition is something that is very important to us. That’s why we like to say it’s a lifestyle and aren’t really fans of the word diet. We believe that food is so powerful and that it can heal our bodies in so many ways. This book is evidence of that. • • Listen, it’s not easy, we know that. We want to share this information not because we want everyone have to strive for 6 packs and cut up bodies, but because we truly want you to be healthy and feel that from the inside out. All we are saying is that it’s Important to be aware of what we are putting into our bodies and what we are using as fuel in our day to day lives. • • Try by starting to read the labels at the grocery store when you are buying your foods. How many ingredients does it have? Can you pronounce the words on the ingredients list? A couple of rules we like to live by in the store are that if it has more than 5 ingredients, it probably isn’t good (in most cases) and try to stick to the outsides of the grocery store. All the processed, sugary filled stuff is usually in the middle aisles. • • “There’s nothing more natural, or fundamental, in our lives. The miracle we humans have always known is this: Food exists specifically to energize, heal, repair, and uplift us. Every bite you take is a powerful opportunity to create health or promote disease.
