So I know I have posted in a week. I spent 5 days as a youth counselor at a summer camp and 2 days at my inlaws. So I havent been really great in my food choices Camp only provided high carb items that were edible. No protein options that were cook correctly so all I had was carbs and snacks. Good news it doesnt look like I gained any weight but I feel so out of whack. I havent felt myself since I went. I cant wait to get back into healthy eating and working out. I will be posting again as normal. This is what my run training currently looks like... it certainly aint pretty! ☹️ Dark, cold and this weekend we added icy rain to the mix! It is HARD to not press the snooze button through winter. It is HARD to find time to fit everything in, especially if you are trying not to impact on weekend family time. It is HARD staying consistent. If you stop training through winter you risk the downward spiral of moving less and eating more. Before you know it your clothes start to feel tighter and you are left feeling uncomfortable and frustrated. So how DO you keep on going when motivation dips?? Of course everyone is different, and we all have different goals, and are driven by different things. But here's a few little tips to keep in mind through the cooler months. 😊 ➡️ This is only temporary, it will get easier! ➡️ Imagine how it will feel when you do reach your goal! ➡️ If you don't push through winter it will be so much harder to get started come spring. We all know what the return after 2 weeks feels like (OUCH!), imagine after a few months off! 😣 ➡️ You have come this far... are you REALLY done yet?? ➡️ Make this time different!💪 ➡️ Rope in a training buddy, it is proven that if you train with a friend you remain more accountable for longer! ➡️ Book in your training and treat it like appointments you CANNOT miss! I'm not an expert on the topic but I am on a quest to be an expert on my own body. It's possible that before I would have shied away from a post on this but if it could empower just one woman to look a little deeper, ask more questions, & to know their body better I would be over the moon 🌙⠀ ⠀ We're talking female stuff but if you are a guy in a relationship this could be for you too. First of all, let's let go of the belief that awful PMS, irregular periods, abnormally heavy flows, dramatic moods swings, night sweats, etc are NORMAL. We are taught to believe that they are and that we just need to learn to deal.⠀ ⠀ When I feel like crap or notice that something feels off, I try to figure out a way to support my body through it. Research & several podcasts have led me to a possible solution that further fuels my notion that #FOODISMEDICINE. All of these problems stem from a hormone imbalance that can be significantly improved by consuming seeds in a specific rotation throughout your cycle. ⠀ ⠀ Flax & pumpkin seeds for days 1-15 to naturally increase estrogen levels. Estrogen builds up our uterine lining during the follicular phase. Sesame & sunflower seeds for days 15-30 stimulate progesterone production which prepares the uterine lining for implantation (b/c even if you're not ready to get pregnant, making sure that things are working properly now is essential to your future fertility and current well-being).⠀ ⠀ I could talk longer about this but it's getting long. If you're on birth control for symptoms related to your cycle or for contraceptive I urge you to dig deep and understand what's happening internally. BC is handed out to girls, often unnecessarily. I downloaded the MyFlo app after a recommendation from a friend & I'm excited to be tracking & learning every day!⠀ ⠀ I whipped up these seed balls to ensure I get my flax & pumpkin seeds since we are traveling! I use ground seeds & store them in the fridge to preserve freshness. These are 1/4 cup ground flax, 1/4 cup ground pumpkin seeds, 1/4 cup coconut oil, 1/4 cup almond butter, & 3 dates. Can you tell I threw them together quickly & didn't get too creative on the measurements? #foodismedicine
